Wheat or Weeds? Worship on Sunday, July 7

Worship with us on Sunday, July 7. Pastor Brett’s topic is “Wheat or Weeds?” Our scriptures include Acts 20:28-31, Matthew 13:24-30, and Matthew 13:31-43.

Synopsis: Jesus tells a series of three parables, wheat and weeds, mustard seed, and the yeast. Fortunately, Jesus goes into detail, explaining nearly every part of the parable to His disciples. These details help us with answers to some common questions many Christians ask. Why does God allow evil to grow and seemingly succeed? All of us at one time or another have wanted to and perhaps have judged others. We’ll explore these and other thoughts and questions this coming Sunday as we explore these parables.

Worship: The Great Banquet – have you accepted the invitation?

Worship with us on this Sunday, June 30, 2024! Pastor Brett’s topic is “The Great Banquet: Have You Accepted the Invitation?” Our scriptures include Isaiah 25:1-9, Luke 14:15-24, then Luke 14:1-14.

Synopsis: This Sunday we will look at the Parable of the Great Banquet. In the parable, a man planned a large banquet and sent out invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to contact each of the invited guests, telling them that all was ready, and the meal was about to start (verses 16-17). One after another, the guests made excuses for not coming. We examine in depth what the parable represents; the banquet, the excuses, the reaction of the Master, and what it all means to us.

He not only forgives our sin, but restores us as His children when we confess our faith in His Son, Jesus. Today we look at the end of the parable and the thoughts and actions of the older son. We’ll examine His actions in light of another parable Jesus taught and other Bible passages regarding forgiveness.

Father’s Day Worship: The Father’s Love

Worship with us on this Father’s Day Sunday, June 16 at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Brett Spalding’s sermon topic is “The Father’s Love.” Our scriptures include 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, Luke 23:35-43, and Luke 15:11-32.

Synopsis: In this parable, Jesus truly seeks to emphasize the loving character of God; While people on earth tend to question the sincerity of the repentant – God does not – God freely forgives the sinful who are repentant. Second, Jesus wants Christians to celebrate with those who are repentant, Jesus wants us to celebrate with those who lost their way and then responded to the message of the Gospel.

Jesus wants us all to know that when we lose our way; when we stray; when we squander all we have and sin in despicable ways; that we can come home. When we are at our lowest points in life; we can call on God and know that God will not be there judging the sincerity of our repentance; but rejoicing that we come to him, barefoot like a slave, thirsting for his forgiving water; knowing that God is waiting to throw a party to celebrate the return of one who was lost.

Worship on June 9: Leaving the Old Behind?

Worship with us on Sunday, June 9 at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Brett Spalding’s sermon topic is “Leaving the Old Behind?” Our scriptures include Ephesians 4:20-24, Ephesians 2:11-18, and Matthew 9:14-17.

Synopsis: Today we begin a sermon series on the Jesus’ Parables. Parables are simple stories that Jesus uses to illustrate a spiritual lesson.

Jesus’ first two parables are the parable of the new and old cloth and the parable of the wine skins. Both have to do with how Jesus’ teachings will not fit with old religious practices and customs. We’ll explore these two parables this week and others over the next several weeks.

Sunday, June 2: Faith and Hope!

This week, at our at 9:30 a.m. worship service, Pastor Brett Spalding’s sermon topic is “Faith and Hope!” Our scriptures include Psalm 33:20-2, John 16:12-15, and Romans 5:1-11.

Synopsis: I’ve read this passage numerous times and each time I read that line; “when we were enemies with God” – it grabs hold of me and takes my breath away. Imagine yourself for a moment as an enemy of God. Imagine having to fear the wrath of God every day. Imagine a life of uncertainty and fear, one with no hope. It’s not something I want to think about much longer than we did just now. Fortunately, we don’t have to, because as the Apostle Paul writes, we have been justified by faith and therefore have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who allows us to live in Grace.

We are also recognizing our 10 college scholarship recipients today. Congratulations to all, and best wishes for your upcoming school year. See more information about this year’s recipients here.

Worship with us on Sunday, May 26 at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Brett Spalding’s sermon topic is “God’s Glory Alone.” Our scriptures include Psalm 72:17-19, Isaiah 60:1-5, Romans 11:33-36, and Revelation 1:4-8 and 7:9-12.

Synopsis: Beginning with Martin Luther, the Reformation theologians used five phrases to describe the essentials of the Christian faith. These are described as the five “Sola’s”, a Latin word meaning “alone”.

  1. Sola Scriptura – Scripture alone
  2. Solus Christus – Christ alone
  3. Sola Fide – Faith alone
  4. Sola Gratia – Grace alone
  5. Soli Deo Gloria – Glory to God alone

The first four of these phrases concern our relationship with God and our salvation. Today we’ll look at the fifth phrase and the goal and plan behind our salvation.
