Sunday, January 8: Jesus’ Baptism and Its Meaning for Us

Join our 9:30 a.m. worship of the Lord! Pastor Brett’s topic is “Jesus’ Baptism and Its Meaning for Us” with scriptures from Isaiah 42:1-9, Matthew 3:13-17, and Acts 10:34-43. You can attend in person or tune in to our YouTube @CommunityChurchLudington live stream.

Synopsis: This Sunday we move from the season of Advent and Christmas and on to the season of Epiphany.  Epiphany being defined as the sudden understanding of something; in this case the revealing of Jesus, the Messiah, not just to the Jewish people, but to the Gentiles as well.  One of our lectionary passages details Jesus’ baptism, another the prophecy of that baptism, and a third detailing Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.  So, the question, what does this all mean to us, and more importantly, how should Jesus’ baptism, life, death, and resurrection impact our lives?

Synopsis: The Sermon on the Mount describes the Christian life.  When we look at the Jesus’ teachings in the sermon, it is easy to wonder how it is possible to live in this blessedness.  The truth is, it is not possible if not for Jesus’ gift on the cross.  Jesus died on the cross, not just so our sins would be forgiven and we could live in Heaven with Him for eternity; but so we could live in the blessedness of the Sermon on the Mount.
