October 29 – Jesus: We are His Bride, His Inheritance

Worship with us at Community Church on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Brett’s topic is “Jesus: We are His Bride, His Inheritance.” Our scriptures are Psalm 103; Ephesians 1:15-23; and Song of Songs 8:8:5-7, 11-14.

Synopsis: Today we look at the closing chapter of a book that is often ignored by preachers. Song of Songs is the love story of Solomon and his Shulamite maiden bride Abishag told with great symbolism, an allegory. Charles Spurgeon writes on this, “We cannot imagine the Holy Spirit giving us this song merely for the purpose of entertaining us…There must be a deep and hidden meaning in it.” As we examine this passage in light of other scripture, we see the bride (the church) and its maturing love for Christ and then we see Christ, the jealous and loving groom, whose love is as strong as death. Behold the love of Christ that has overcome sin and death!

October 15th: To Live is Christ, to Die is Gain

Worship with us at Community Church on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Brett’s topic is “To Live is Christ, to Die is Gain.” Our scriptures are 2 Corinthians 5:1, 6-10; Philippians 1:12-20; then Philippians 1:21-20.

Synopsis: When this passage from Philippians was written, Paul was in prison and obviously thinking about life in ministry and death. Paul shares his thoughts with us on this paradox of living in Christ versus being with Christ in the eternal kingdom. We will take a look at this passage and provide us some things to think about.

Worship on September 24: The Righteous Live By Their Faith

Join us to worship the Lord on September 24, 2023, at 9:30 am. Pastor Brett’s topic is “The Righteous Live By Their Faith” Our scriptures are Habakkuk 1:1-4, Galatians 3:7-14, and Habakkuk 2:1-4.

Synopsis: Many people look at Habakkuk 2:4 and state that the message of Habakkuk can be summarized in this one statement; “the righteous live by their faith.” Jerome Creach in his book, “The Destiny of the Righteous in the Psalms” convincingly argues that the term “righteous” in not first and foremost a moral term, but rather first a relational term. Righteous people have a relationship with God and they depend on Him, they trust in Him for everything. We’ll explore this idea of righteousness this Sunday.

Sunday, September 17: Yet, I Will Rejoice in the Lord

Worship with us at Community Church on Sunday, September 17th at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Brett Spalding’s topic is, “Yet, I Will Rejoice in the Lord.” Our scriptures are Isaiah 61:10-13, Habakkuk 1:5-11, and Habakkuk 3:14-19.

Synopsis: The prophet Habakkuk was called at a difficult time. He was awaiting the brutal Babylonian invasion of Judah. Things looked dismal, threatening, and uncertain. We have all faced these times in our lives, some seemingly hopeless. This was the case here, and Habakkuk responds, “Yet, I will rejoice in the Lord!” It is never the circumstances that shape us, but our response to them.
